Bingley
Bingley is a market town within the metropolitan borough of the City of Bradford located in West Yorkshire, England. The town lies on the River Aire and also the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, and is located in Airedale on the south of Ilkley Moor. In recent years, the population has decreased, having a population of approximately 20,000 in 2001 and reducing to around 18,294 in the 2011 Census. The meaning of the town's name is interpreted as 'Bing's Clearing' and finds its origins in Saxon. The town's initial settlement served the ford across the River Aire at the narrowest point of the Aire Valley, and Ireland Bridge was made in 1986 with the intention of replacing the ford. Barges on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal pass the Bingley Five Rise Locks, with visitors frequently observing barges navigating the locks.
