One of the main advantages with a garage conversion is that the space can be changed quickly for the additional room you need, whether it's for a growing family or just to add to the value of your property.
A garage conversion suggests you won't need to move for more space, which will help save a lot of money on solicitor fees, estate agent payments and stamp duty. And the extra space can be transformed into whatever you need, whether it's an extension to the living area or kitchen, or simply a separate room entirely.
With the structure already in place it's evident that a garage conversion will be less costly than creating an extension as well, and won't consume important space in your garden. With the outside unlikely to change too, it's a good way to get around rules for conservation areas as well as listed buildings.
If you're serious about converting your garage, do a comparison of prices from companies within Catterick Garrison using our quick and simple service to get the very best deal available.

Catterick Garrison is a major garrison and town positioned 3 miles south of Richmond in the Richmondshire district of North Yorkshire, England. The town lies within the Central Richmondshire electoral division of North Yorkshire County Council and divided among the Hipswell and Scotton wards of Richmondshire District Council. The town is divided in between two civil parishes. The southern part of the town, south of a little stream known as Leadmill Gill, is in the civil parish of Scotton. The northern part forms the greater part of the civil parish of Hipswell. Every parish has its own parish council. It's the biggest British Army garrison in the world, with a population of around 13000 and measuring over 2400 acres. The original intention for Catterick was to become a short-term camp to accommodate two full divisions with about 40000 men in 2000 huts. However, under plans announced by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) in November 2005, the population of Catterick Garrison is anticipated to grow to over 25000 by 2020, making it the biggest population centre in the local area. Lacking a real town centre, the Garrison gained its initial large supermarket in 2000, together with a retail park known as 'Richmondshire Walk', which also includes a McDonalds, a Poundstretcher plus a Peacocks, among other shops. 'Catterick Leisure Centre' is a purpose built complex opposite the retail park, opened in July 2009, and it offers a broad spectrum of leisure and fitness facilities including a swimming pool, plus a fitness centre, as well as an adjoining public library. For all your home upgrades, ensure that that you use trustworthy professionals in Catterick Garrison to make sure that you get the top quality.

Are you looking to create some more space in your home with your garage being almost dispensable? If yes, then considering a garage conversion project may be the way to go. Unlike many other extension options, garage conversion does not take up an additional space as it only changes the current structure of the garage. As a result, the cost of completing a garage conversion project can be relatively attractive when compared to other space creating alternatives. So exactly how much would a garage conversion project cost? Well, there’s no precise answer for this as several influencing factors come to play. However, in this guide we’ll give you a rough idea of the average costs that you’re likely going to encounter. Some of the factors that can influence your budget dramatically includes the following:
• The size of the conversion. The larger the size of the garage per square feet, the more cost you’ll have to expend.
• The type of your property - listed buildings are usually more expensive.
• Your location in the UK. If you stay in London where there’s a higher demand, you’ll most likely pay more.
• You’re likely to pay more if a specialist knowledge is required.
• The amount of glazing to be installed
• Quality of the materials to be incorporated.
• Quality of the professional to carry out the installation service.
On average, when it comes to garage conversion projects, you’re likely to pay the following depending on the per square metre given:
• A single garage of about 15 square metre will cost within the range of £6,000 to £15,000.
• A double garage of about 30 square metre will cost within the range of £12,000 to £30,000.
Converting your garage into a habitable room can be an option that’s too good to pass up especially when you’re in dire need of more living space in your home. If you’re in a similar situation and considering the cost of a single garage conversion in your home, then you’ve come to the right place! The fact is, the cost of a single garage conversion is dependent on a number of influencing factors which includes your specific plans as well as your location. Generally, the price of garage remodel is expected to cost about half of what you’ll incur when building a home extension or addition from scratch. However, before commencing a project of this magnitude you should put into consideration some things.
A single garage conversion is a huge job which typically involves wall insulation, floor raising, heating addition, cool and ventilation as well as updating doors and windows. Before you get started you should consider if converting your single garage into a room is a good option, whether a permit is required to convert a garage, the type of room a garage can become, does it add value to your home and how much its going to cost.
Just like any other home improvement project, garage conversion cost varies depending on several factors like your garage space specifications. Other factors include the general condition of your garage - the condition of your foundation, walls, floors or roofs, the ceiling and more, planning applications, your location, the services of a structural engineer, internal or external garages etc. According to Santander, the average cost of converting a single garage costs approximately £6,300. However, considering the aforementioned influencing factors we’d expect the cost of a single garage conversion to cost within the range of £5,500 to £10,500.
You may need planning permission if you are planning a larger extension. All extensions will need building regulations approval. An architect can assist with this and if planning permission is required. A reputable contractor will also be able to advise you if this is needed as well.
Are you considering converting your garage into a more usable space in your home? If yes, then you’d probably want to know if you’ll require building regs before converting the garage. The answer to this question is yes. Although you may not require planning approval to convert your garage into a more usable space, but you’d usually need approval under the Building Regulations.
When re-structuring your garage into a habitable space, the following should be taken into consideration: structural alterations, ventilation, moisture proofing, insulation, fireproofing, escape routes as well as the submission of a building building notice or full plan application to the local council in order to inform them about the planned project.
• Walls
You’ll require an approval if you plan to infill the garage door with a window and a new wall. This is because the garage may have been built of a shallow slab which implies that a new foundation would be needed for the new wall construction.
• Floor
Even though there’s a high possibility that the garage floor is strong enough for domestic use since its designed to withstand the weight of vehicles, you may however need to upgrade to make sure it suitable for both thermal insulation and damp proofing. In addition, there may also be the need to to alter the floor level in such a way that it matches that of the remaining parts of the house.
• Ventilation
According to the Building Regulations requirements, there’s a need for adequate ventilation for each individual rooms which includes garage conversions for general health purposes. What’s going to determine the ventilation level that’ll be required is the frequency at which the room is used. Ventilation can be provided through purge or simply opening the window or via trickle ventilation.
