East Cowes
East Cowes is a community as well as civil parish to the north of the Isle of Wight, on the east bank of the River Medina beside its neighbour on the west financial institution, Cowes. The two towns are connected by the Cowes Drifting Bridge, a chain ferry run by the Isle of Wight Council. East Cowes is the site of Norris Castle, and also Osborne House, the previous summer season house of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. The Prince had a major impact on the style of the area, for instance on the building of St Mildred's Church in nearby Whippingham, which features distinct turrets mimicing those located on a German castle.
