Guisborough is a market town and civil parish in the English county of North Yorkshire. It is within a unitary authority of Redcar and Cleveland, and in the Trees Valley region of the North East of England. Primarily for ceremonial purposes, it remains in the ceremonial county of North Yorkshire. Held every Thursday and Saturday, alongside on Tuesdays with the presence of a few stalls, Guisborough market has had a prominent place in the history of the town. Primarily offering mainly cattle and livestock, the market gradually evolved into a more basic market for such items as vegetables and fruit, clothing and flower stalls. It is run from the early morning to late afternoon on the cobbles that line Westgate, the primary shopping street. Because of its spot around the ironstone mines of the North York Moors, the town also had a share in the success of the Industrial Revolution. According to the 2011 Census, the permanent population of the town is around 17777. Significant residential development came about through the 1960s and 1970s with the progression of the chemical industry at Wilton and the steel sector at Redcar. With no large employers in the town, the town has ended up being a commuter town for Middlesbrough, with a number of inhabitants working in the chemical plants spread around Teeside. Guisborough has a King George's Field in memory of King George V, and the town's football team, Guisborough Town F.C., plays on the King George V Ground. There is also a playing field consisting of a backyard and a skate park, and a swimming pool from has been found in the park ever since 1968.
