Aberdare
Aberdare is a large town in the Cynon Valley area of Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales. The population was 31,705 at the 2001 census, which makes Aberdare the 13th biggest town in Wales. It is 20 miles north-west of Cardiff and 22 miles north-east of Swansea.
Aberdare evolved into a busy industrial town in the 19th century, when it became a centre of iron and tin production. Later there were many coal mines in the town which increased its population as people came there to work. Now that the coal mines have closed, the landscape has remains of its past but nature has returned it to its former beauty.
The town dates back far into history, with ancient burial sites and standing stones still visible today. There is a lot of Victorian architecture still standing in Aberdare that links with its colourful past.
Aberdare is a bustling town with copious amounts of shops and restaurants. It is just a 40 minute train drive from Cardiff, so it's easy to enjoy the countryside around Aberdale and then hop on the train to take advantage of what the city has to offer.
