Daventry

Daventry is a market town in Northamptonshire. It is 76.4 miles north-northwest of London and 13.9 miles west of Rugby. Sitting between 135 and 160 metres above sea level, it is surrounded by hillsides reaching heights of 225 metres. Daventry is situated on the watershed of the River Leam, which travels to the west of England, and the River Nene, which travels east. Having said that, there is not a river in the town and the most considerable bodies of water stem from two reservoirs that feed the canal that swings from Watford Gap into the West Midlands through a 1.9 kilometre long Braunston Tunnel. Daventry is traditionally a rural town with a modest population, having around 4000 residents in 1950. Expansion took place from 1955 when British Timken, the tapered roller bearing maker, established a big factory in the town. Coupled with being marked as an 'overspill' to settle people and industry from Birmingham in 1966 as part of an agreement with Birmingham City Council, the town continued to grow. There are a number housing estates, including Drayton, Middlemore Farm, Long Farm, Ashby Fields, Royal Oak, Timken, Stefen Hill, The Grange, The Southbrook and the Headlands. Even after such development, it did not reach the target population of 36000 by 1981, and the population of the town was recorded as 25026 in the 2011 Census. The contemporary property and industrial project surrounds the town's historical market centre. 74 landmarks and buildings in Daventry's town centre are on the List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest led by the Church of Holy Cross at Grade I, and buildings including Market Place and the Danetre Hospital Offices are Grade II listed. For all your house upgrades, ensure to make usage of respected contractors in Daventry to make particular of quality.

FAQs

does my house need rewiring?

When it comes to electrical works, safety is always paramount. Although a complete house rewiring service may seem quite expensive, when compared to the safety it provides, you’d realize it’s well worth it. We know all too well that human nature tends to prevail to overlook small electrical issues until it’s too late or probably gets out of hands. When this happens, not only will you have to spend more to get the issue resolved, but it may also lead to some damages to your property. Hence, the need to identify and resolve electrical deficiencies as soon as possible. In this post, we’ve compiled a shortlist of some of the top signs that your house needs rewiring. Let’s take a look!

  • Dimming or flickering lights. This is one of the most common signs that your house needs to be rewired. When a light brightens, it means there’s too much voltage and when it dims, it implies it’s receiving too little voltage. You may be tempted to think this is a lighbulb issue, but this type of decline in power is usually as a result of a loose wiring or faulty circuits which should not be ignored.
  • Regularly blown fuses. With the steady development in technology as well as electrical appliances within our houses, older style fuses that are not designed to contain this amount of electricity will end up blowing. If your fuse blows on a more regular basis, then there may be a need to upgrade them to more modern circuit breakers.
  • Lightbulbs burning out in their sockets. This is usually a sign of bigger issues in your wiring which is often caused by fluctuations in voltage.
  • Sparking outlets. These can be perfectly normal, but at times they can also be a clear signal of a potentially dangerous problem which should not be ignored.
does a 1960 house need rewiring?

Unlike in houses built in the 1970s where a good majority of the houses will not need to be rewired, for houses built in the 1960s you’d probably need to rewire the entire house unless the wiring is the modern PVCu coated type. Generally, the homes built especially in the 1960s and 1970s brought about enormous changes. This is because over the years our way of living began to change and as a result, our need for electricity became even greater. In response to this, the electrical systems we incorporate needed to change in order to match the new set standards.

In the 1960s, the amperage normally used was increased to 100, which enables home and property owners to power their dishwasher, microwave as well as refrigerator all on one circuit. However, while this may be a remarkable improvement for our grand parents, this is just enough to cater for our modern day appliances. In recent times, new homes are constructed using a wide range of dedicated circuits due to the fact that each of our appliances makes use of much more electricity to function. Consequently because the 100 amp panels of the 1960s possessed restricted space for breakers, home and property owners who still had the units in their homes will inevitably require a sub panel or a new panel entirely - meaning a total rewiring of their property.

Furthermore in the 1960s, builders turned to aluminium from the previously used copper as it was a great conductor and also happens to be relatively cheap. However, after a couple of years a host of electrical fires cropped up in houses that are wired using aluminium. It was later discovered that when the switch to aluminium was made, the light switches or receptacles which were originally made for the previously used copper was overlooked. It was learned that there’s a corrosive chemical reaction that arises as a result of the two dissimilar metals when connected. Hence, the more reason why aluminium wired houses in the 1960s needs to be rewired.

Can you rewire a house without an electrician?

The short and simple answer to this question is, no. If you’re a seasoned DIYer then you should probably know a thing or two about electrical works around your property. However, house rewiring works should only be carried out by a qualified and registered electrician for a handful of reasons. In this FAQ, we’re going to take an in depth look at a few reasons why a house rewiring project should always be tackled by a reliable professional.

  • Risk. Not only do you out your own health and that of your loved ones at risk when you attempt to complete electrical rewires on your own, but you also put your property at risk. Tackling electrical works involves a great danger. These dangers can come in different forms such as electrical wires electrocution, shock as well as fire. What’s more? Items in your home also possesses higher voltages, and when it comes to electrical wiring, the higher the voltage, the more dangerous the project becomes. Another tricky task to get around is hidden junction boxes as well as connections. Since these components are out of sight, the chances of you getting shocked increases rapidly. All these risks can only be mitigated when proper procedures are followed . therefore, if you decide to do electrical work on your home, then there’s the need to obtain necessary permits for completing the work. Once completed, the work done should be inspected by a licensed electrical inspector. However, the best way to reduce the risks is by hiring the services of a licensed electrician.
  • Safety. Electricians are trained to perfect their craft and comply with safety protocols. They’re also required to pass a licensing test so as to work as an electrician. The safety of your property and loved ones when it comes to your home’s electrical works can only be guaranteed when done by a qualified and registered electrician.
How to add new power sockets to a room?

If you’re thinking about adding new power sockets to your room, then you’ve come to the right place! This task can be a very tricky one especially if you don’t know how to go about it. If you don’t have the skills or experience necessary to pull this off, then we’d strongly recommend you hire the services of qualified and licensed electrician who can guarantee the best results for help. In this guide, we’re going to take you through the numerous steps you’d have to take to make sure your new power sockets is added successfully. Let’s take a look!

  • All the power to the working area at the primary electrical panel should be turned off.
  • Identify the cut area for individual electrical box.
  • Pilot saw blade by drilling corner holes
  • Drill into framing for wiring, if required
  • Connect electrical wires to the electrical panel from the outlet box holes, pulling four feet through the wall.
  • Attach white wires to silver screws as well as black wires to brass screws and also the ground wire.
  • Incorporate electrical tape to tape around the box
  • Connect the box to the wall and cover with the outlet plate
  • Carry out the process for individual outlet needed
  • De-energize the entire electrical panel by shutting off the house’s main breaker
  • Fit an arc volt breaker by connecting white and black wire to the breaker
  • Connect white wire from the new breaker directly onto the neutral bar of the electrical panel
  • Finally, you can turn the main breaker back on.
