Bellshill

Bellshill is a town in North Lanarkshire, Scotland. It's positioned 10 miles to the south east of Glasgow city centre and 37 miles west of Edinburgh, in addition to being in close proximity to other towns including Motherwell, Hamilton and Coatbridge. Since 1996, it has been a part of the Greater Glasgow metropolitan area. With a population of approximately 20,705, a report by the Halifax Building Society indicated that in the initial quarter of 2005, the town was the UK's homebuying hot spot, witnessing a rise in property prices by 46%. This resulted in the average home price in the area as being around £105,000. It's suggested that the town dates from the 17th century, which originally featured a row of quarry workers' homes belonging to Mr. Bell, the proprietor of a stone quarry towards the south of the town. The improvement of Bellshill, nevertheless, largely came about soon after the quarry shutting at the beginning of the 19th century. Improvements have continued throughout the twentieth century. Most recently, the Streetscape Project, a project aiming to achieve the town's renovation and to modernise the the town centre, took place between 2007 and 2010, which developed a one way system around the main street and made the area considerably more friendly for pedestrians. Since the middle of the 1980s, the town has been recognised specifically for producing respected and influential popular music, with bands including the Soup Dragons, BMX Bandits and Teenage Fanclub hailing from the town. A Channel 4 television series, 'Sounds of the Suburbs', celebrated the music of the area, often known as the 'Bellshill Sound' or the 'Bellshill Beat'.
