Bingley
Bingley is a market town within the metropolitan borough of the City of Bradford positioned in West Yorkshire, England. The town is on the River Aire as well as the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, and is located in Airedale to the south of Ilkley Moor. The population has recently witnessed a drop, having a population of about 20,000 in 2001 and decreasing to about 18,000 in the 2011 Census. The meaning of the town's name is interpreted as 'Bing's Clearing' and is Saxon in origin. The town's first settlement served the ford across the River Aire at the narrowest point of the Aire Valley, and Ireland Bridge was constructed in 1986 with the intention of changing the ford. A great deal of the older history of the town is still present within the town, like the Bingley Grammar School, established in the 16th century, which is believed to be one of the oldest schools in the country.
