Abergavenny
Abergavenny is an old town in Monmouthshire, Wales. It is approximately 6 miles from the English border and 15 miles west of Monmouth, and has a population of 10,078. It was originally the location of a Roman fort and it became a medieval walled town in the Welsh Marches. Abergavenny also holds the remnants of a medieval stone castle built after the Norman conquest of Wales.
The town is often named 'the Gateway to Wales'. It sits at the confluence of the tributary stream Gavenny and the River Usk. It is surrounded by the mountains Blorenge and Sugar Loaf, and five hills. There is access to the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons National Park through Abergavenny.
