Kirriemuir

Kirriemuir, occasionally called Kirrie, is a burgh in Angus, Scotland. Its history gets to back to earliest recorded times, when it is thought to have been a major ecclesiastical centre. Later it was related to witchcraft, and also some older homes still feature a "witches stane" to ward off wicked. In the 19th century, it was a crucial centre of the jute profession. The playwright J. M. Barrie was born and also hidden here, as well as a sculpture of Peter Pan stands in the town square. Though its significance as a market community has lessened, its previous jute manufacturing facilities (now manufacturing synthetics) resemble its value in the 19th century as the centre of a home-based weaving market. Historic functions near Kirriemuir include a carved Pictish rock referred to as the Eassie Stone, discovered in the bed of a shed near the village of Eassie. Kirriemuir declares the narrowest public footpath in Western Europe; Cat's Close, positioned between Grant's Pend and Kirkwynd. It is a plain 40 centimetres (15.75 inches) large. The family members estate of Sir Hugh Munro, that developed Munro's Tables of Scottish hills over 3,000 feet in elevation (which are currently called "munros"), is also situated near the community, as is Kinnordy House, the seat of the Lyells.
