Southwark
The London Borough of Southwark in south London, England forms part of Inner London and is connected by bridges across the River Thames to the City of London. It was formed in 1965 when three smaller sized council areas amalgamated under the London Government Act 1963. This included the former area of the Metropolitan Borough of Southwark, the Metropolitan Borough of Camberwell, along with the Metropolitan Borough of Bermondsey. It's controlled by Southwark London Borough Council.
The borough covers an overall area of roughly 11.14 square miles. To the south are the London Boroughs of Bromley and Croydon. As outlined by population estimates produced in the middle of 2014, Southwark includes a permanent population of around 302538 individuals.
The borough is residence to a number of cultural, historical and notable attractions. The Shard, Tate Modern, Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, and Borough Market which are the largest of the venues in Southwark to draw domestic and international tourism. Dulwich houses the Dulwich Picture Gallery along with the Imperial War Museum in Elephant and Castle.
