Biggleswade
Biggleswade is a market town and civil parish on the River Ivel inside the English county of Bedfordshire. It's around 40 miles north of Central London and twenty miles from Cambridge. Settlements close to Biggleswade are considered to have been in existence from around 10000 BC, which is supported by archaeological evidence, such as arrowheads dating from the period that have been discovered within the town. As per the 2011 Census, the town had a permanent population of around 16,500. On account of effective transportation links, being located on the A1 road between London and the North, also as possessing a railway station around the most important rail link North from London, the population has increased by almost 10% over the last ten years. This development is anticipated to continue thanks to new housing developments. Historically, Biggleswade was a vegetable growing area with a lot of the produce being taken to marketplaces in London, like Covent Garden. Although much of this trade has closed, Bedfordshire Growers, positioned on the town's outskirts, continue to supply the leading supermarkets in the United Kingdom with potatoes and onions grown in Biggleswade. Biggleswade is also home to the headquarters for Jordan's cereals, a firm that manufactures many varieties of muesli and granola. Sports and leisure activities play an important part in the local community.
