Horley has a significant economy of its own, consisting of the presence of business parks and a long high street consisting of commercial chain stores and independent services. It was home to the Matbro works, which produced forklift trucks between the 1950s and the 1980s and founded telescopic handlers, which were popular with farmers and construction companies. A popular attraction is the Archway Theatre, located under the arches of the Victoria Road railway bridge; the theatre features a bar, an auditorium with a seat capacity of 95, and a studio theatre seating 40 people.
