Padstow is a community, civil parish and also fishing port on the north coast of Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. The town is positioned on the west bank of the River Camel estuary about 5 miles (8.0 km) northwest of Wadebridge, 10 miles (16 kilometres) northwest of Bodmin and 10 miles (16 kilometres) northeast of Newquay. The population of Padstow civil parish was 3,162 in the 2001 census, reducing to 2,993 at the 2011 census. Furthermore an electoral ward with the same name exists however expands as for Trevose Head. The population for this ward is 4,434. Generally a fishing port, Padstow is currently a preferred tourist location. Although several of its previous fishing fleet continues to be, it is primarily a yachting sanctuary on a dramatic coastline with couple of quickly navigable harbours. The impact of restaurateur Rick Stein can be seen in the port, and also travelers take a trip from cross countries to eat at his restaurant and also cafés. This has actually led to the town being referred to as "Padstein", by food authors in the British media. Nevertheless, the boom in the appeal of the port has created home price rising cost of living both in the port and also bordering areas, as people buy houses to live in, or as second or vacation houses. This has implied substantial numbers of locals can not afford to buy building in the location, with costs frequently well over 10 times the ordinary salary of around £ 15,000. This has actually led to a population decrease. Strategies to construct a skatepark in Padstow have been proposed as well as funds are being increased to create this at the Recreation Ground (Wheal Jubilee Parc).
