Campbeltown
Campbeltown (population 4,852) is a community and former royal burgh in Argyll and also Bute, Scotland. It lies by Campbeltown Loch on the Kintyre peninsula. Initially called Kinlochkilkerran (an anglicization of the Gaelic, which indicates "head of the loch by the kirk of Ciarán"), it was relabelled in the 17th century as Campbell's Town after Archibald Campbell (Earl of Argyle) was approved the website in 1667. Campbeltown came to be a vital centre for Scotch whisky, and a busy fishing port.
