Tillicoultry
Tillicoultry (population 5,900) is a town in Clackmannanshire, Scotland. Tillicoultry is normally described as Tilly by the residents. One of the Hillfoots Towns on the A91, which runs from Stirling to St. Andrews, Tillicoultry is situated at the southerly base of the Ochil Hills, which supply a spectacular background. The River Devon exists to the south. The river additionally goes through neighbouring towns Dollar and Alva to the east as well as west respectively. The previous mining town of Coalsnaughton lies just southern, whilst Alloa lies 4 mi southwest. The "hill" referred to in the first etymology is likely to be Kirkhill, at the eastern of the town. The alternative Latin etymology, Tellus culta, the cultivated land, suggested by Rev. William Osborne, preacher of the church from 1773 to 1794, is likewise feasible. However, as both etymologies can just as be applied to a hundred places in Scotland, both are suspicious, as neither define the community in a special fashion.
