Smoke Alarm in Bellingham

Smoke alarms are important for every household. Every year, the Fire and Rescue Service go to over 600,000 fires which lead to over 800 deaths. These incidents could be prevented by having smoke alarms installed in each dwelling or business premises. Smoke alarms are self-contained devices that detect a fire and sound an alarm. They should be fitted to the ceiling, although in certain properties you might see them fitted at the top of a wall. They are able to detect fires in their early stages, giving you time to react to a fire. You'll find various types of smoke alarms and they can be battery-powered or wired up to the mains electricity. Alarms that are powered by the mains are thought to be safer as you don’t have to be concerned about changing the batteries when they run out. Providing you do not have a power cut, the smoke alarm should detect fires and keep you and your loved ones safe. An electrician can help you set up a smoke alarm and connect it to your mains power. Just fill in our online form and we’ll put you in touch with as much as 4 electricians who are qualified to provide you a competitive quote.

Bellingham

Bellingham is a district in south east London, in the London Borough of Lewisham. Its neighbouring districts are Catford, Sydenham and Downham. The Ravensbourne River runs through the centre of Bellingham, and to the west and east it is bordered by railway lines jogging south from Catford.

The name Bellingham means ‘the water-meadow belonging to Beora’s people’, and was the real name of the medieval manor in the area. The true name was preserved by the farm in the region, Bellingham Railway Station and the Bellingham Estate. Various other historical names have already been preserved by the road brands of the estate, which are connected with King Alfred, who was simply thought to have been god, the father of the manor of Lewisham, and were taken from the names of mills, houses and areas in the certain area.

Bellingham was mainly farmland until the Bellingham Estate was built, mostly between 1920 and 1923. London City Council built about 2600 houses and flats during this time. Bellingham Estate was one of many large estates built by London City Council after the First World War to assist with slum clearance and reduce overcrowding. As there is lots of land available the majority of the dwellings built were two-story homes, and there was lots of green, open space.

Today, Bellingham is a localised town centre. Its high street is Randlesdown Road, which has a supermarket, a gym, hairdressers and multiple restaurants and food outlets. It also has a sixth form college, and a church and a library. Bellingham boasts many well-known former and present residents, like the singer/song-writer Kate Bush, the former Labour Prime Minister James Callaghan, and the footballer Ian Wright.
