Fascias and soffits are an essential aspect of the majority of guttering systems. Not only do they offer support for the guttering itself, they improve the appearance of your building by producing a clean and neat finish to the roofline. Fascias or fascia boards are horizontal boards that sit on the edge of the rafters of your roof, closing the end of the roof and creating the support that the guttering is mounted to. Soffits run beneath the fascia boards, closing the gap and protecting the underside of the rafter ends. Soffits are typically ventilated to help the roof timbers to breathe and to stop any moisture buildup. Box ends are used where the horizontal fascia meets the diagonal barge board that runs up the edge of the roof profile, supplying a neat finish to an otherwise ugly join.
Fascias and soffits are normally created from either timber or UPVC. Wood fascias and soffits are standard on older properties and continue to be popular. However, wooden fascias and soffits can rot as time passes and expose the rest of the guttering to problems or leaks. Recently, UPVC fascias and soffits have been increasingly popular as they provide a long lasting option that will not rot. UPVC fascias and soffits can be purchased in a variety of colours to fit any property, although white is extremely popular as it offers a traditional appearance. Fascias are also available in ogee moulded designs, where feature grooves are integrated. These can have a striking effect.
How much replacing your soffits and fascias costs depends on several things, including the size of your property, the materials you use and where you live. However, the cost of a soffits and fascias project tends to range between £1,300 and £2,000 for most people.

Source: Numbers calculated based on the search volumes in major search enginesDarvel or Dervel (population 3,361) is a small town in East Ayrshire, Scotland. It goes to the eastern end of the Irvine Valley as well as is in some cases described as "The Lang Toon" (English: the Long Town). The town's Latin adage, Non sibi sed cunctis, suggests "Except ourselves, however, for others". Darvel is located on the A71 road that ranges from Irvine on the west coast to Edinburgh on the eastern. The town is 9 miles (14 kilometres) east of Kilmarnock and is the most easterly of the Valley Towns, the others being Galston and Newmilns. The community was also when related to Stonehouse (through Strathaven) by the Caledonian Railway. Nevertheless, the line was closed by the LMS before the Second World War. The previous Glasgow and South Western Railway branch line to Kilmarnock made it through for a lot longer and was closed in 1964 as part of the Beeching Axe. Much of the route of both the old train lines is still in existence, although the rails have actually time out of mind gone and lots of road bridges have actually been removed. There was a huge viaduct to the east of the town, in the lea of Loudoun Hill, which lugged the railway line over the valley. This was however, knocked down in 1986, and just the piers continue to be. The River Irvine flows via the community as well as as soon as powered neighborhood mills.

Having ventilation in the roof void is a requirement for building regulations approval. Fitting ventilated soffits is the typical way that this roof ventilation is achieved. If you do not have roof ventilation, you may find that your roof void has problems with condensation or overheating.
Soffits and fascias are available in lots of different colours. These include black, grey, brown, white and cream. It’s also possible to get them in brighter colours like reds, blues and greens.
What colour soffits and fascias you get is entirely up to you, unless you live in a listed building, in which case some rules may apply. Most people choose a colour that matches their roof, walls or window frames to give their property an attractive, colour-coordinated look.
Soffit is a word gotten from two languages - French and Latin, whereby the root word implies to “form as a ceiling in French, while it means to “to fix underneath in Latin. Basically, soffit is a portion of the ceiling that has been constructed lower than the area that surrounds it. And even though they aren’t that much popular in recent times, they happen to be a common feature in kitchens of older homes in the UK. At times, a soffit can occupy the whole room or area in a home.
Homeowners across the globe make use of this feature mostly as a decorative element in the room , however, there are also times in which they may be required for various purposes. These purposes include using soffits to conceal plumbing pipes or, heating or cooling ducts, which is often the case when sofits are constructed at the lower levels of homes. They’re also often incorporated in bathrooms or kitchens as soffits house light fixtures. For instance, recessed light fixtures fitted over kitchen or bathroom sinks are mostly fitted into a soffit. What’s more? Soffit can also be required in a room because of the home’s structure as the feature can be used to hide a structural beam.
If you happen to own an older home and you’d like to remove an existing soffit, the first step is to ensure that its safe to carry out such plan. You should firstly check for any electrical lines, ductwork, lighting or structural problems that may exist prior to the commencement of the project. If you’re not sure or confident enough to pull this off, then it’s advisable to consult a professional contractor before you proceed.
Soffits and fascias sit along the sides of your property, over the join between your walls and your roof. The fascia attaches to the end of your roof rafters, hiding and protecting them. The soffit fixes on the bottom of the fascia, bridging the gap between your fascia and wall. Your guttering attaches to the fascia, which also joins to the bargeboard on your gable end, if you have one.
We can help you get more soffits and fascias work with our qualified job leads and boost your business.
