Dunoon
Dunoon is the primary town on the Cowal peninsula in the south of Argyll as well as Bute, Scotland. It gets on the western coast of the upper Firth of Clyde, to the south of the Holy Loch and also to the north of Innellan. The early history of Dunoon frequently focuses on 2 feuding clans: the Lamonts as well as the Campbells. Dunoon was a popular destination when travel by steamships prevailed around the Firth of Clyde; Glaswegians explained this as going "Doon the watter". This diminished, and several holidaymakers started to go somewhere else as roads and railways improved and also the popularity of abroad travel raised. In 1961, during the height of the Cold War, Dunoon became a garrison town to the United States Navy. In 1992, they closed their Holy Loch base, and Dunoon endured a financial slump. Because the base's closure, the town as well as bordering area are again looking to tourism, marketing to outside lovers and also wild animals enthusiasts as well as advertising events as well as competitors. The biggest annual event held in the town is the Cowal Highland Gathering. The Royal National Mòd has been held in the community 8 times, most recently in 2018.
