Machynlleth
Machynlleth, sometimes referred to colloquially as Mach, is a market community, community and electoral ward in Powys, Wales and within the historic limits of Montgomeryshire (Welsh: Sir Drefaldwyn). It remains in the Dyfi Valley at the crossway of the A487 and also the A489 roads. At the 2001 Census it had a population of 2,147, rising to 2,235 in 2011. Machynlleth was the seat of Owain Glyndwr's Welsh Parliament in 1404, and thus claims to be the "old capital of Wales". However, it has never held any main recognition as a capital. It looked for city status in 2000 and 2002, however was unsuccessful. It is twinned with Belleville, Michigan. Machynlleth organized the National Eisteddfod in 1937 as well as 1981.
