Broughton-in-Furness is a modest market town around the southern boundary of England's Lake District National Park. It is located within the Furness region of Cumbria, which was part of Lancashire before 1974. It is positioned close to the River Duddon, inland from the coastal hamlet of Foxfield. The nearest railway station to Broughton is currently Foxfield railway station, 2 miles (3.2 km) to the south west of the town. The creation of the National Park in the 1950s attracted tourism to Brougton-in-Furness, even though most visitors still head further north or east into the central lakes.
