Gunnislake

Gunnislake is a large village in east Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. It is set in the Tamar Valley about ten miles (16 km) north of Plymouth. Gunnislake remains in the civil parish of Calstock and is close to Cornwall's border with Devon which follows the course of the River Tamar. It has an electoral ward in its own name that includes much of Calstock and the surrounding area. In accordance with the 2011 Census, the village has a permanent population of around 4574 people. The village has a past record of mining and much of the town's progression is owed to this commercial activity, although this market is no longer active in the area. Throughout the mining boom in the Victorian period, more than 7000 people were employed in the mines of the Tamar Valley. During this time, Gunnislake was held in equal standing amongst the wealthiest mining locations in Europe. The region is mainly residential with a small handful of businesses, which vary from clubs to garages and small shops. Gunnislake is located in the Tamar Valley designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, although some recent commercial advancement has actually been attempted and achieved. Within early 2006, Hingston Down Quarry set up a new asphalt production tower which is easily noticeable as it dominates the skyline of Gunnislake. Ever since 2001, the village has every year hosted its own gala, involving a range of celebrations throughout a week-long occasion. There is a King George's Field in memorial to King George V positioned in lower Gunnislake for leisure and sport activities. The town is also the home of Gunnislake Football Club. FAQs

how does double glazing work?

One of the essential factors that makes a home truly a home is the convenience and comfort it provides us. As a result, we usually have a long to do list comprising things that come together to make sure our home is comfortable with ambient temperature at the very top of the scale of preference. After all, no matter how greatly designed your furniture and home decor is, it probably would amount for nothing if the temperature is either too hot or too cold. Some of the most common ways we incorporate to make the temperature a lot more conducive and warm during the winter months is by installing air conditioning system or through top notch insulation materials, but the fact still remains that a lot of heat would escape through the doors and windows. And that’s exactly the use of double glazing. So how exactly does double glazing work?

Double glazing basically works by preventing the escape of air and trapping it between two panes of glass. It’s the trapped air which serves as an insulation barrier which delivers 3 major functions. First and foremost, it stops the escape of heat through the window as the barrier created insulates the room from varying air temperatures at both sides of the glazing unit. The second major function is the double glazing works to keep down noise pollution coming from outside. While the third major function of double glazing I the fact that it helps minimize condensation which usually occurs on the single glazed windows’ inside as the cold outside air works to cool the warm air inside the house. When you install a double glazing window, the insulation barrier generated will work to stop the air temperature transmission which ultimately helps prevent the occurrence of condensation.

What are the other double glazing options?

Double glazing frames don’t just have to come in uPVC and are available in other materials including aluminium and wood too. Wooden or timber windows are more suited to properties with a traditional look and are often the frame of choice for listed buildings and homes in conservation areas. When properly maintained wooden windows can last well for years but can be up to three times more expensive than uPVC.Aluminium is the strongest and most durable option. As a metal it is highly resistant to the UK’s changing weather conditions and won’t rust, warp, crack or peel. Aluminium offers a modern appeal and is available in a range of colours.

What happens if I have problems with my new windows?

Ultimately the double glazing company you use is responsible for the quality of work and to ensure your windows are of an excellent standard. This is why it’s important to get a warranty and use a Fensa registered installer. If problems emerge within a couple of years then it’s likely the installation was of a poor standard.Contact the double glazing company and have the issue repaired or new windows replaced. This doesn’t matter if you received a discount of free windows as part of the deal. As long as you entered into a contract the company is obliged to restore the windows.

How much money will I save with double glazing?

By replacing the single glazed windows in your home you stand to make savings of around £170 each year. It’s not just the financial gain that makes double glazing attractive though and you can also save up to 680kg of carbon emissions annually. Over 20 years this is a saving of around £3,400 and 13,600kg of CO2.
