Peacehaven

Peacehaven is a town and civil parish in the Lewes district of East Sussex, England. The town covers a total area of around 2 square miles. It is located above the chalk cliffs of the South Downs approximately 6 miles (9.7 kilometres) east of Brighton city centre, on the A259 road. The pebble beach beneath the cliffs can be reached by a stairs and concrete driveway and sea walk. There is a number of green spaces along the A259 and the cliffs, one of which is called The Dell. A movie theatre formerly stood on this site, and now it holds events such as car boot sales, fireworks, fairgrounds, motorhome events, the Donkey Derby and an annual carnival, although in 2005 the carnival was held on the Joff field found behind the Meridian shopping centre. In the 1950s, the carnival stalls were identified on the then deserted land on the NW corner of the South Coast Road (A259) and Dorothy Avenue. Its site corresponds with the point where the Greenwich meridian crosses the English south coast. The Greenwich meridian is marked by a 3.5 m (11 ft) tall obelisk, commissioned by Charles Neville. It was unveiled on 10 August 1936 and has been relocated two times thanks to erosion of the cliffs. The parish features part of the Brighton to Newhaven Cliffs Site of Special Scientific Interest. The cliffs are primarily of geological interest, featuring lots of Santonian and Campanian fossils. The SSSI listing incorporates flora and animals biological interest too. According to the 2011 Census, the town has a permanent resident population of around 14067 people. For all your home renovations, make certain to identify reputable experts in Peacehaven to make certain of quality.

FAQs

how to fit a double glazed window?

Did you just purchase a double glazed window and confused about how to have it installed? Fitting the window yourself can be quite easy with the help of this step by step guide. However, if you lack proper training or experience, we’d recommend you reach out to a trustworthy professional who can guarantee the best results for help. That said, now let’s take a look at the process.

• Remove the old windows by detaching the old beading and glass window safely. Then make some interval cuts using a hand saw before using a crowbar to pry it out.

• Cut the external double glazed window seal. Once done, take a measurement of the window area’s width once empty. Then transfer the measurement to the window sil to face outside and cut using a handsaw.

• Seal the window sil. Add a bead of clear silicone along both inside lip as well as the centre to seal the sil.

• Screw the double glazed window to the sil. Position the window on the top of the lipped section that was siliconed. Then pre-drill them together and screw in three places. You should make sure the screws do not go totally to the sil’s bottom.

• Install the double glazed window. After successfully screwing the double glazed window to the sil, you can now fit in the double glazing. Make use of packers to make sure it’s even in the slot.

• Screw the uPVC window to the wall. If you’re happy and satisfied with the position of the window, you can then pre-drill through the frame of the window and the brick wall. Once done, simply screw it in place using masonry screws or Spax screw as they do not require crawl plugs in bricks.

• Seal around the window. To do this, simply fill any gaps with expanding foam, wipe out the excess and seal with silicone.

What is uPVC?

uPVC is unplasticised polyvinyl chloride. It is a favourite amongst homeowners and manufacturers for its cheap production cost and excellent benefits. uPVC is used for window frames, conservatories and doors. In fact, uPVC can be three times cheaper than wooden frames and is also the most energy efficient option. As well as this, uPVC is now available in a range of colours other than the typically seen bright white finish. It can also be recycled, is durable and resistant to changing weather conditions.

Are A-rated windows worthwhile?

On the grand scale of things there isn’t a huge difference between B-rated windows and A-rated windows. Consumer watchdog Which? have calculated an extra 6.5% would be saved on energy bills with A rather than B rated panes. Be aware that A rated windows are slightly more expensive, however.

What are the other double glazing options?

Double glazing frames don’t just have to come in uPVC and are available in other materials including aluminium and wood too. Wooden or timber windows are more suited to properties with a traditional look and are often the frame of choice for listed buildings and homes in conservation areas. When properly maintained wooden windows can last well for years but can be up to three times more expensive than uPVC.Aluminium is the strongest and most durable option. As a metal it is highly resistant to the UK’s changing weather conditions and won’t rust, warp, crack or peel. Aluminium offers a modern appeal and is available in a range of colours.
