Chesham

Chesham is a market town in the Chiltern Hills inside the county of Buckinghamshire. It is located 11 miles south east from the county town of Aylesbury. Chesham is also a civil parish with a town council inside the Chiltern district. Situated inside the Chess Valley, it is surrounded by farmland, in addition to being bordered on Amersham and Chesham Bois. The earliest records of Chesham as a settlement which have been discovered go back to the second half of the 10th century, though archaeological evidence of inhabitants within this area from 8000 BC has been uncovered. The town is most extensively recognised for its '4 Bs'. This includes boots, beer, brushes and Baptists. The prosperity of Chesham improved greatly over the 18th and 19th centuries because of the development of the manufacturing market. Employment inside the town currently is supplied mainly by independent businesses engaged in light industry, technology and the professional services. With a population of 20343, many shops, workshops and cottages may be found along the high street to meet consumer demands of the residents. In relation to other towns in south Buckinghamshire, there's a small quantity of detached and owner-occupied houses, with a larger proportion of social rental accommodation. The continued increase in reputation of Chesham as a residential place since the second half of the twentieth century has meant that restrictions on housing development has been put in place in the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Increasingly, residents in employment are commuters, making use of the convenient train links or vehicle, and many are home-based making use of technology to earn income.
