Westcliff-on-sea
Westcliff-on-Sea is a residential area of Southend-on-Sea, a seaside resort and unitary authority in Essex in south-east England. It is on the north shore of the reduced Thames Estuary, about 34 miles (55 km) east of London. The primary shopping area in Westcliff-on-Sea is Hamlet Court Road, where the department store Havens, established in 1901, stayed the anchor store till its closure in 2017. Hamlet Court Road took its name from a manor house called the Hamlet Court, which based on land currently inhabited by Pavarotti's dining establishment and adjacent stores, facing in the direction of the sea with sweeping yards down to the rail line. The road later turned into a solid independent retail location and also rapidly became famous outside the location as the Bond Street of Essex. There were many haberdashers and specialist stores, and it was not also unusual to see licensed operators awaiting their employers to arise from the stores.
