Blandford Forum
Blandford Forum, frequently Blandford, is a market town in the North Dorset district of Dorset, England, sited by the River Stour concerning 13 mi (21 kilometres) northwest of Poole. It was the management headquarters of North Dorset District Council up until April 2019, when area councils combined to come to be Dorset County Council. Blandford is significant for its Georgian architecture, the outcome of rebuilding after the majority of the community was destroyed by a fire in 1731. The rebuilding work was helped by an Act of Parliament and a contribution by George II, and the rebuilt community centre-- to layouts by local designers John and William Bastard-- has endured to the present day greatly intact. Blandford Camp, a military base, is sited on capitals two miles to the north eastern of the town. It is the base of the Royal Corps of Signals, the communications wing of the British Military, and also the site of the Royal Signals Museum. Dorset County Council estimates that in 2013 the town's civil church had a population of 10,610. The community's economic climate is based upon a mix of the service industry and light industry, and also provides employment for about 4,000 people.
