Fencing in Kirriemuir

Interested in having fencing installed in Kirriemuir? Using the Quotatis service you're able to look at as many as 4 fence companies in order to get the best deal available for the task you need.

Fencing is very important for all households no matter whether it's the front or back garden. From maintenance work to a full installation of new fencing, using a reputable contractor is highly encouraged to get the best price available.

Fences work as a border to our properties and with an installation you'll add more protection to your house and prevent easy access to the back garden. Back garden fences are usually close to 6 feet high, which straight away makes it tougher for intruders to gain access.

Decorative fences or wooden picket fencing will often be best suited for the front garden, where security isn't as vital. Instead, you're more likely to opt for a front garden fence specifically for design and to add something different.

For whatever style of fencing you're wanting to have installed, make certain to make use of our free and no obligation service to get the best deal available in Kirriemuir.

It will also differ among regions, so it's best to get a few quotes to see what the best price is in your area.

Kirriemuir

Kirriemuir, occasionally called Kirrie, is a burgh in Angus, Scotland. Its history gets to back to earliest recorded times, when it is believed to have been a significant ecclesiastical centre. Later on it was understood witchcraft, as well as some older houses still feature a "witches stane" to fend off evil. In the 19th century, it was an essential centre of the jute profession. The playwright J. M. Barrie was born and also buried right here, and also a statue of Peter Pan stands in the town square. Though its value as a market town has lessened, its previous hemp manufacturing facilities (now making synthetics) resemble its significance in the 19th century as the centre of a home-based weaving industry. Historic functions near Kirriemuir consist of a carved Pictish rock referred to as the Eassie Stone, found in the bed of a burn near the town of Eassie. Kirriemuir claims the narrowest public path in Western Europe; Cat's Close, positioned in between Grant's Pend as well as Kirkwynd. It is a plain 40 centimetres (15.75 inches) wide. The family estate of Sir Hugh Munro, who developed Munro's Tables of Scottish hills over 3,000 feet in elevation (which are currently called "munros"), is also located near the community, as is Kinnordy House, the seat of the Lyells.

    FAQs

What do I need to do to maintain my fence?

Properly erected fences shouldn’t require a great deal of maintenance. Any rotting boards can usually be replaced without replacing the whole panel. Timber fencing should be stained every 2-3 years. General maintenance is something you can carry out yourself, however, larger works may need a qualified professional to come in.

How close can I build to my neighbour’s fence?

As a home or property owner, you’re generally allowed to build next to your neighbour’s fence as long as it’s on your own side of the property. With that in mind, there are certain laws that regulate how close a fence can be built to buildings on the same lot or neighbouring lots. In addition, there are also local bylaws that provide limitations on the placements as well as height of fences so as to address safety hazards. In this post, we’re going to give you a good insight into how close you can build to your neighbour. Let’s take a look!

In general, if the fence is in your boundary then you’re allowed to build a 2-metre high brick or wooden fence or wall. However, this may differ depending on your location in the UK. As a result, you may want to reach out to your municipality’s building department in order to determine what these rules and limitations are in your area. In the events whereby there are no such restrictions but you’re still concerned, you can try informing your neighbour what your concerns are. However, if they’re not receptive there are some steps you can take to ensure your plans go as smoothly as possible. These steps include the following:

    • Ensure to leave sufficient space for both the posts and footings
    • Stagger your fence posts in order to make sure you’re not digging your neighbour’s
    • Consider using concrete posts as they’re much stronger and will last a lot longer
    • Use kickers or plinths for raised gardens and flower beds
    • Make use of concrete plinths as they won’t rot over time like a wooden fence.
Do I need planning permission for fences?

Not if they are under 1 metre high if next to a road or 2 metres high elsewhere. It’s always recommended to check with your neighbours and the local authority if you are unsure. Other restrictions may apply, for example if a fence might impact driver visibility on nearby roads.

What types of garden fencing are available?

There are quite a few different types of garden fencing that are readily available, so you’ll have plenty to choose from. If you’ve got a strict budget, waney edge panel fencing is a good option. It’s made up of horizontal wood strips and is generally the cheapest type of fencing. Another good option is closed feather-edge panels. These are a really strong type of fence, made up of concrete posts and panels of vertical strips of wood. You can also get more decorative types of fencing with combinations of vertical and horizontal wood strips.
