Fencing in Linlithgow

Interested in having fencing installed in Linlithgow? With the Quotatis service you'll be able to check up to four fence companies in order to get the best deal available for the work you want.

Fencing is very important for all houses whether it is the front or back garden. From repair work to a complete installation of new fencing, employing a respected contractor is highly encouraged to get the best price available.

Fences act as a boundary to our households and with an installation you'll add protection to your house and prevent easy access to your back garden. Back garden fences are typically close to 6 feet high, which straight away will make it more challenging for intruders to gain access.

Decorative fences or wooden picket fencing are usually most suitable for the front garden, where security isn't as paramount. Instead, you're more likely to opt for a front garden fence specifically for decoration and to add something different.

For whatever type of fencing you're looking to have installed, be sure to make use of our free and no obligation service to get the best deal available in Linlithgow.

Linlithgow

Linlithgow is a royal burgh in West Lothian, Scotland. It is West Lothian's county town, as seen in the county's alternate name of Linlithgowshire. Linlithgow is set in the north-east of West Lothian, alongside the border with Stirlingshire. It lies 20 miles (30 km) west of Edinburgh along the main railway route to Glasgow. Previous to the building of the M8 and M9 motorways, in addition to the launching of the Forth Road Bridge, the town was positioned on the main road from Edinburgh to Stirling, Perth and Inverness while the canal system linked the burgh to Edinburgh and Glasgow. The close-by town of Blackness at one time worked as the burgh's port. Linlithgow is surmounted by its nearby hill, Cockleroi. An ancient town, it lies south of its 2 most famous landmarks: Linlithgow Palace and Linlithgow Loch, and north of the Union Canal. With Saint Michael as the partron saint, the town's motto is 'St. Michael is kinde to straingers'. A statue of the saint holding the burgh insignia stands on the high street. 2 large sections of the northern side of the High Street were demolished in the 1960s and replaced by flats and public structures in the brutalist style typical of that time period. While these structures were embraced at the time as being a vast improvement on the cramped and dilapidated traditional accommodation, they have actually needed considerable repairs and maintenance and renovation over the years. With a population of around 19000, the town is really popular with the middles classes and commuters due to effective transport links and high quality schooling. For all of your home upgrades, make sure to make use of respected experts in Linlithgow to make certain of quality.

    FAQs

What types of garden fencing are available?

There are quite a few different types of garden fencing that are readily available, so you’ll have plenty to choose from. If you’ve got a strict budget, waney edge panel fencing is a good option. It’s made up of horizontal wood strips and is generally the cheapest type of fencing. Another good option is closed feather-edge panels. These are a really strong type of fence, made up of concrete posts and panels of vertical strips of wood. You can also get more decorative types of fencing with combinations of vertical and horizontal wood strips.

Fence ownership: who owns that garden fence?

When it comes to fence ownership and responsibility, this is often a subject of dispute between neighbours and understandably so. Owning a fence comes with a number of responsibilities such as arranging and paying for the maintenance and more. Therefore, if you’re not yet sure who owns the garden fence, then you’d probably want to have that sorted to make sure your property stays protected at all times. In this post, we’re going to give you an insight into some of the rules guiding fence ownership in order to help you make informed decisions. Let’s take a look!

There’s no rule of thumb on whether you own the fence on the right hand or the left hand side of your property. Therefore, if you’ve heard any “rules that states otherwise, you can fling that out the window because not everyone will own the left hand side to their fence. The first way to determine who owns the garden fence or which side of the fence you’re responsible for is simply by looking. Although this is not guaranteed or a definite way to determine ownership, it can go a long way to give you a good idea. As you would have expected, fences are most likely built on the land that belongs to the boundary’s owner with the further edge of the fence making the actual boundary. As a result, you can determine a fence ownership simply by identifying where the frames are.

Also, you can determine fence ownership using the title deeds for an official and accurate answer. A copy should be given alongside your paperwork which is received when purchasing your house.

How close can I build to my neighbour’s fence?

As a home or property owner, you’re generally allowed to build next to your neighbour’s fence as long as it’s on your own side of the property. With that in mind, there are certain laws that regulate how close a fence can be built to buildings on the same lot or neighbouring lots. In addition, there are also local bylaws that provide limitations on the placements as well as height of fences so as to address safety hazards. In this post, we’re going to give you a good insight into how close you can build to your neighbour. Let’s take a look!

In general, if the fence is in your boundary then you’re allowed to build a 2-metre high brick or wooden fence or wall. However, this may differ depending on your location in the UK. As a result, you may want to reach out to your municipality’s building department in order to determine what these rules and limitations are in your area. In the events whereby there are no such restrictions but you’re still concerned, you can try informing your neighbour what your concerns are. However, if they’re not receptive there are some steps you can take to ensure your plans go as smoothly as possible. These steps include the following:

    • Ensure to leave sufficient space for both the posts and footings
    • Stagger your fence posts in order to make sure you’re not digging your neighbour’s
    • Consider using concrete posts as they’re much stronger and will last a lot longer
    • Use kickers or plinths for raised gardens and flower beds
    • Make use of concrete plinths as they won’t rot over time like a wooden fence.
Do I need to dispose of the old fencing myself?

Most responsible contractors will dispose of the old fencing via an approved commercial waste site. Do check that the cost of taking rubbish away is included in the quotes you receive, otherwise you might find you get stung when it comes to paying for the work.
