Wotton-under-edge

Wotton-under-Edge is a market community within the Stroud area of Gloucestershire, England. Located near the southern fringe of the Cotswolds, the Cotswold Way long-distance footpath passes through the town. Standing on the B4058, Wotton is about 5 miles (8.0 km) from the M5 freeway. The nearby train station is Cam and Dursley, 7 miles (11 kilometres) away by road, on the Bristol to Birmingham line. The community is reasonably well offered for a town of its dimension. It has a number of clubs and also a hotel, and also a variety of takeaways as well as dining establishments. It can be fairly dynamic during the night contrasted to several others of its size. It has several energetic social groups, such as Scouts, Guides, a gardening club and also the Wotton Lions. In 1958, local individuals as well as college pupils constructed the town pool, which was completed in 1961. Subsequently the swimming pool has had solar and electrical heating installed. In 1999 with the fund raising support of neighborhood groups, a retractable enclosure was fitted to prolong the swimming season. In 2002, following the closure of the local movie theater, a group of volunteers increased funds for a refurbishment to turn into one of the initial digital movie theaters in the UK. It re-opened in 2005 as a 100-seat center inside an old secure lawn, as soon as part of the Crown Inn which closed in 1911. Movies were first displayed in the old Banqueting Hall of the Inn and also transferred to the secure yard some years later, because of the popularity of movies. The Wotton Electric Picture House (the initial name) is currently a growing location.

    FAQs

What is the cheapest fence to install?

The cheapest fence to install is, generally, a pressure-treated pine wooden fence at around £20 per linear foot. This includes the materials and labour costs. Wire fencing is technically cheaper at around £5 per foot, but it’s not a great material to use in homes as it looks unsightly and doesn’t provide any privacy.

How close can I build to my neighbour’s fence?

As a home or property owner, you’re generally allowed to build next to your neighbour’s fence as long as it’s on your own side of the property. With that in mind, there are certain laws that regulate how close a fence can be built to buildings on the same lot or neighbouring lots. In addition, there are also local bylaws that provide limitations on the placements as well as height of fences so as to address safety hazards. In this post, we’re going to give you a good insight into how close you can build to your neighbour. Let’s take a look!

In general, if the fence is in your boundary then you’re allowed to build a 2-metre high brick or wooden fence or wall. However, this may differ depending on your location in the UK. As a result, you may want to reach out to your municipality’s building department in order to determine what these rules and limitations are in your area. In the events whereby there are no such restrictions but you’re still concerned, you can try informing your neighbour what your concerns are. However, if they’re not receptive there are some steps you can take to ensure your plans go as smoothly as possible. These steps include the following:

    • Ensure to leave sufficient space for both the posts and footings
    • Stagger your fence posts in order to make sure you’re not digging your neighbour’s
    • Consider using concrete posts as they’re much stronger and will last a lot longer
    • Use kickers or plinths for raised gardens and flower beds
    • Make use of concrete plinths as they won’t rot over time like a wooden fence.
Do I need planning permission for fences?

Not if they are under 1 metre high if next to a road or 2 metres high elsewhere. It’s always recommended to check with your neighbours and the local authority if you are unsure. Other restrictions may apply, for example if a fence might impact driver visibility on nearby roads.

What do I need to do to maintain my fence?

Properly erected fences shouldn’t require a great deal of maintenance. Any rotting boards can usually be replaced without replacing the whole panel. Timber fencing should be stained every 2-3 years. General maintenance is something you can carry out yourself, however, larger works may need a qualified professional to come in.
