Berkhamsted

Berkhamsted is a medium-sized historic market town around the western border of the English county of Hertfordshire. Located inside the little Bulbourne Valley in the Chiltern Hills, it serves predominantly as a commuter town, being 26 miles northwest of London. As recorded in population surveys from 2013, the town has a population of roughly 18,100, occupying around 7500 households. There are a variety of structures in residential areas, with 77% of household areas being houses or bungalows and 23% being flats or maisonettes. Settlements have been established in Berkhamsted for over five hundred years, as discovered by archaeological evidence of flint working throughout the Neolithic age and metal working during the late Iron Age and Roman periods. Although farming, service and light industry were ordinary occupations in the area in 1986, the biggest employers of the town in 2015 were educational institutions and retail. Most of the firms are located inside the nationally famous Berkhamsted West ward. In 2014, the Academy of Urbanism's Urbanism Awards referred to the character of Berkhamsted's High Street as 'vibrant' and 'bustling', developing a 'pleasant' and 'successful' shopping environment. There's a wide collection of shops and food retailers available to inhabitants and guests, being the location a mixture of independent and commercial chain retailers, cafes, coffee shops, eating places and pubs. For social events, the Rex Cinema gives numerous current films for the citizens of Berkhamsted to view. Being constructed in the art deco style of architecture in 1937, the Daily Telegraph has ranked the Rex as the UK's most beautiful cinema, and it was named Britain's Best Cinema in the first Guardian film awards of 2014. For all of your home improvements, ensure that you select trusted experts in Berkhamsted to ensure that you get the best quality service.

FAQs

Does a smart TV need an aerial?

Generally speaking, you do need an aerial if you have a smart TV. This what will enable you to watch live TV. However, if you’re not bothered about live TV, and just want to use services like Netflix, Amazon Prime and Youtube, you don’t normally need a TV aerial. This is because these services use the internet instead.

Do you need an aerial for Freeview?

Freeview is only available through a TV aerial. You can’t access Freeview using the internet, so you’ll need to invest in a TV aerial if you haven’t got one already.

Can I receive a satellite signal using an aerial?

No, you will need a satellite dish to receive a satellite signal for services like Sky or Freesat, as these are specific channels and programmes only broadcast via this medium. These can be installed in a similar way to a standard TV aerial by a recognised engineer.

How to connect a TV to an aerial?

Your TV and aerial need to be connected by coaxial cable for your TV to work. Most properties have wall mounted connection boxes – similar to electrical plugs – that you can simply plug your TV into. If you don’t have a cable, it’s easy to pick up one from most DIY shops.

If you’re installing a new outside aerial, you may be able to reuse the old cable. If you can’t, you’ll need to route a new one down from your aerial to any sockets you need. Coaxial cable can be routed down the exterior of your property, through loft spaces, under floors and along skirting boards.
