Strathaven is a historical market community in South Lanarkshire, Scotland and is the biggest settlement in Avondale. The town was approved a Royal Charter in 1450, making the Community of Strathaven a burgh of barony. The present estimated population is 7,500. The community is located on the edge of the strath of the Avon Water, around 6 miles (10 kilometres) from Hamilton as well as 18 miles (29 km) from Glasgow.
