Machynlleth
Machynlleth, in some cases described informally as Mach, is a market town, area and also electoral ward in Powys, Wales as well as within the historic borders of Montgomeryshire (Welsh: Sir Drefaldwyn). It remains in the Dyfi Valley at the intersection of the A487 and the A489 roads. At the 2001 Census it had a population of 2,147, rising to 2,235 in 2011. Machynlleth was the seat of Owain Glyndwr's Welsh Parliament in 1404, and also because of this claims to be the "old capital of Wales". Nevertheless, it has never held any official recognition as a capital. It got city condition in 2000 and also 2002, yet was not successful. It is twinned with Belleville, Michigan. Machynlleth organized the National Eisteddfod in 1937 as well as 1981.
