Chesham

Chesham is a market town in the Chiltern Hills in the county of Buckinghamshire. It's located 11 miles south east from the county town of Aylesbury. Chesham is also a civil parish with a town council within the Chiltern district. Situated in the Chess Valley, it's surrounded by farmland, as well as being bordered on Amersham and Chesham Bois. The earliest records of Chesham as a settlement which have been found date back to the second half of the 10th century, though archaeological proof of inhabitants in this area from 8000 BC has been uncovered. The town is most widely recognised for its 'four Bs'. This includes boots, beer, brushes and Baptists. The prosperity of Chesham improved considerably across the 18th and 19th centuries as a result of the improvement of the manufacturing sector. Employment in the town now is provided primarily by independent organisations engaged in light industry, technology and the professional services. Having a population of 20343, a multitude of shops, workshops and cottages can be located along the high street to meet consumer demands of the residents. When it comes to other towns in south Buckinghamshire, there's a small quantity of detached and owner-occupied homes, with a greater proportion of social rental accommodation. The continued increase in reputation of Chesham as a residential location since the second half of the twentieth century has meant that restrictions on housing development has been put in place in the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Increasingly, residents in employment are commuters, utilising the convenient train links or vehicle, and many are home-based using technology to earn money.
