The London Borough of Southwark in south London, England forms a part of Inner London and is connected by bridges across the River Thames to the City of London. It was formed in 1965 when three smaller sized council locations amalgamated under the London Government Act 1963. To the south are the London Boroughs of Bromley and Croydon. According to population estimates made in the middle of 2014, Southwark features a permanent population of about 302538 people.
