It is governed by Southwark London Borough Council.
The borough covers a total area of about 11.14 square miles. Towards the south are the London Boroughs of Bromley and Croydon. Southwark features a wide variety of housing, which includes council housing, including the post-Blitz Aylesbury Estate and the Heygate Estate to provide houses to low-income residents.
