Dereham
Dereham is a town and civil parish in the English county of Norfolk. Positioned on the A47 road, it is 15 miles west of the city of Norwich and 25 miles east of King's Lynn. For regional government uses, the town is the administrative base for the district of Breckland. The town encompasses an area of 8.31 square miles and at the time of the 2001 Census, there was a permanent population of 15659 residing in 6941 homes, with the population increasing to 18609 in the 2011 Census. Historical proof has revealed that settlements have actually been on the Dereham area from the Neolithic period, such as the discovery of a Neolithic polished greenstone axe head, flint scraper and other tools in local fields during the course of the 1980s. Dereham is recognized for its role during The second world war, whereby the 'Jentique' furniture factory made boxes for instruments and bombs used over the course of the war. The town was also the home of 'Hobbies of Dereham', which developed maps, packages and tools, alongside their well-known treadle fretwork saws, for assembling wood models and toys. At its peak, Hobbies owned 10 shops in prestige locations around the UK, and the business now has facilities in Raveningham, where they continue to trade. Sports and leisure also have a substantial function in the local area. The most popular location for several sports and leisure facilities is the former railway and commercial land near to the town's station, which combine to include swimming pools, a gym, and a dance hall. The town is also home to Dereham F.C., a Non-League football club that plays at Adiss Park.
