Dunmow
Great Dunmow is a historic market town and civil parish in the Uttlesford area of Essex, England. It is positioned on the north of the A120 road, around midway in between Bishop's Stortford and Braintree, 6 miles east of London Stansted Airport. Initially the site of a Roman settlement on Stane Street, the town prospered throughout the Middle Ages. Lots of buildings survive from this period, consisting of a sixteenth-century town hall. Dunmow indicates "Meadow on the Hill". [4] The negotiation was variously described as Dunmow Magna, Much Dunmow, or many generally Great Dunmow. Great Dunmow borders the previous estate of Easton Lodge in the adjoining church of Little Easton, a lodge coming from the Maynard household. The most significant member, Frances Maynard, came to be the Countess of Warwick and later on a girlfriend of King Edward VII. As the Prince of Wales he was apparently a routine visitor to the Estate, taking a trip from London on the train to Easton Lodge train station. The initials "CW" are visible on a variety of Victorian period buildings in Great Dunmow. Known as Daisy Greville, Countess of Warwick she was a generous philanthropist in the neighborhood area. As of 2018, Robert Nicholson is Emeritus Mayor of Great Dunmow.
