Great Dunmow is a historic market town and civil parish in the Uttlesford area of Essex, England. It is situated on the north of the A120 road, around midway in between Bishop's Stortford as well as Braintree, 6 miles east of London Stansted Airport. Originally the site of a Roman negotiation on Stane Street, the community flourished throughout the Middle Ages. Many structures endure from this period, including a sixteenth-century town hall. Dunmow means "Meadow on capital". [4] The negotiation was variously referred to as Dunmow Magna, Much Dunmow, or most commonly Great Dunmow. Great Dunmow surrounds the former estate of Easton Lodge in the adjoining church of Little Easton, a lodge belonging to the Maynard household. The most remarkable member, Frances Maynard, became the Countess of Warwick and also later on a mistress of King Edward VII. As the Prince of Wales he was supposedly a regular site visitor to the Estate, travelling from London on the train to Easton Lodge railway station. The initials "CW" show up on a variety of Victorian age residential or commercial properties in Great Dunmow. Known as Daisy Greville, Countess of Warwick she was a generous philanthropist in the neighborhood community. Since 2018, Robert Nicholson is Emeritus Mayor of Great Dunmow.
