Searching for commercial roofing in Emsworth? Our commercial roof covering experts in Emsworth will provide you with the ideal quotes for having commercial roofing installed or replaced.

Commercial rooftops can be required for various reasons, particularly if the existing roof is in need of repair or it'll be installed on a new build.

There are many factors that can contribute to the style and preparing of a new commercial roof and the price will all depend on the size and style you opt for.

Thermoplastic roofing is especially popular. This type of roofing is made from a sturdy material with high temperature tolerance. The material is a favourite for commercial roofing because it's resistant against ultra violet and chemical exposure. The roofing lasts for over 20 years, with a good resistance for fire, punctures and high wind loads.

You could also think about EPDM roofing. The sturdiness and versatility of EPDM roofing can make it a popular material in the commercial roofing world. These types of roofing materials have the benefit of being easier to install, maintain and repair too, adding to their popularity.

If you'd like to install commercial roofing then make sure to compare and contrast prices between vetted specialists in Emsworth. By doing this you can get the ideal price and offer available for you within Emsworth.

Emsworth

Emsworth is a modest town in Hampshire on the south coast of England, near the border of West Sussex. It lies at the north end of an arm of Chichester Harbour, a sizeable and shallow inlet from the English Channel. Adjacent to Emsworth is Thorney Island. The River Ems, which is named after the town and not, as is generally believed, the town being named after the river, passes into the Slipper millpond. The mill itself is now used as offices. According to the 2011 Census, the town has a permanent resident population of around 9492 people. Emsworth developed dramatically during the 20th century, reaching a population of about 5000 by the middle of the century after having around 2000 citizens in the 19th century. The 1000th house in Emsworth was developed in 1953. In the 1960s, substantial parts of the region were developed with a mix of bungalow and terraced housing. In 1906, construction began on the post office, with local cricketer George Wilder laying an inscribed brick. The renamed Emsworth Recreation Ground dates from 1909 and is the present home of Emsworth Cricket Club, which was established in 1811 and commemorated its Bicentennial in 2011. It was marked with a Grand Match versus the MCC. Cricket in Emsworth has actually been played at the same ground, Cold Harbour Lawn, ever since 1761. In the 19th century, the town had as many as 30 pubs and beer houses. The village has a basin for modest private yachts and fishing boats, which fills at high tide and can be drained through a sluice at low tide. For all your home makeovers, make sure to identify respected professionals in Emsworth to make certain of quality.

FAQs

What is commercial roofing?

Commercial roofing simply refers to any roofing work, including installation and repair, that is done to commercial buildings. This might include office roofs, shop roofs or commercial unit roofs. Every building needs a roof to keep out the rain!

Since looks aren’t usually the first priority with commercial buildings, lots of commercial properties have flat roofs. These are often made from felt, EDPM rubber or fibreglass. Felt is the cheapest commercial roofing material, while fibreglass tends to be the most expensive. In felt roofs, roofers use an adhesive to stick roofing felt onto a frame. EDPM rubber roofs have a rubber membrane that is laid down and glued onto the roof and coated with a contact adhesive, while fibreglass uses a cut glass fibre mat that is pressed on before a resin and topcoat are applied.

Not all roofing companies will offer commercial roofing services, because generally the buildings tend to be bigger. Small companies won’t have enough tradespeople to work on a roof without making it very expensive for you. Commercial buildings also tend to need more scaffolding to make it safe for the professionals to work, so some smaller roofing companies won’t offer commercial services. Make sure you check a company’s website or social media if you’re looking for commercial roofing – on the Quotatis Directory, our roofers will show whether they do commercial roofing to make your search easier.

How long does it take to fix a roofing sheet on a commercial property?

How long it takes to fix a roofing sheet on a commercial property will depend on the size of your roof and how difficult access is. Corrugated iron roofing sheets are much easier to fit than other roofing materials such as clay tiles or EDPM rubber, so that will work in your favour.

The size of the team of the roofing company you engage will also make a difference. If they have a lot of tradespeople working on your roof with lots of experience, it will take less time, while if there are only a couple of people it will take longer.

Another thing to bear in mind when considering how long it will take to fix a roofing sheet is the weather. If it starts to rain, the contractors will probably have to stop and wait, as the roof will be too slippery to work on.

In general, it should take between 1 and 3 days to fit roofing sheets on a commercial property. If you’re not having a full roof replacement, it may only take one day, whereas a completely new metal roof could take up to 3 days.

How to install commercial rubber roofing?

How you install commercial rubber roofing is similar to fitting it on a residential property, except that the area that’s covered is likely to be bigger. With commercial properties, you should always leave any maintenance and repair works to the professionals – whether you own or lease the property, you could invalidate any insurance if you try to install rubber roofing yourself. We’ll outline the steps roofers will take when installing rubber roofing on a commercial property.

Firstly, the installers will remove any existing coverings and clean and dry the surface thoroughly. This is vital in ensuring that the rubber will stick. They will then unwrap the EDPM rubber membrane and leave it to rest until it’s fully expanded. On a warm day this may take around half an hour.

Next, the roofers will work with half a sheet of rubber at a time and adhere it to the roof surface. They may use a water-based adhesive which they will spread onto the roof in sections, then roll the membrane onto the surface before moving onto the next section. If they’re using a bonded adhesive, they will apply it to both the roof and the rubber and leave it to dry until it’s tacky before extending the membrane.

Once the EDPM rubber is rolled out, the installers will brush the surface with a large broom to get rid of bubbles and provide a stronger bond. Then they will work of the edges, applying adhesive to roof and walls edges, sealing corners and creating watertight seals. They’ll also tidy up any excess membrane and seal all the trims.

As long as it’s installed correctly, your commercial rubber roofing should last you decades without any repairs needed. It’s always best to inspect your roof regularly to spot any damage before it becomes a bigger problem.

How much does it cost to replace a commercial flat roof?
If your commercial flat roof needs replacing, how much it costs will depend on how big the roof is and what you want it to be made from. Lots of commercial flat roofs are made from felt or asphalt, but people are also beginning to turn to materials like EDPM rubber and fibreglass. Flat roofs can last a long time, but if it’s been 20 years or more since you had it replaced or inspected, it might be time for a new one. If a roofer inspects it and finds lifting, flashing problems, sagging or lots of blisters, it’s probably time to replace your flat commercial roof. So how much does it cost to replace your commercial flat roof? The average cost is around £4,500, but it could be much less or much more. It depends on how big your roof is and what material you choose. Felt is the cheapest material you can use for your commercial flat roof, at around £40-70 per metre squared, while a lead bay roof will cost the most at £90-110 per square metre. EDPM rubber and fibreglass roofs are being used more and more because they’re so durable, and they will cost between £80 and £110 per square metre. It might be worth spending a little more upfront to get a stronger and longer-lasting commercial flat roof.
