South Ockendon is a village as well as Church of England parish in the Thurrock borough and unitary area in Essex in the East of England, United Kingdom. It is located on the border with Greater London, simply outside the M25 motorway. The location to the north is North Ockendon. South Ockendon town became a location for premade residences (prefabs) accommodating bombed-out locals of East London/West Essex in the very late 40s. Much of the original post-war construction was carried out by previous German prisoners of war. The majority of these were destroyed in the late-1960s when a huge Greater London Council estate, Lecaplan "concrete" building and construction residences-- the Flowers' Estate-- was constructed to replace them, again with pre-fabricated dwellings, albeit of a premium style. The Lecaplan Type B form of pre-cast concrete (large panel concrete) terrace is built in rows of eight buildings to a style by J C Tilley and manufactured by W. & C. French. Most of the 150 workers accepted transfers to other Ford or secondary sites around Essex. The 'Aveley' plant was positioned along and west of the railway line, adjacent to Ockendon station in the Belhus Ward that part of Ockendon has currently been become new housing estates, with road names after well-known Ford automobiles in maintaining with the sites background.
