Stump grinding describes the procedure where the stump of a tree that has been previously felled is taken out. Typically after tree felling a couple of inches of the trunk and the root system are kept in the soil, making the adjacent area impractical to use together with potentially enticing insect pests or harbouring tree diseases such as honey fungus. If your back yard has stumps in the soil, taking them out can clear the location, presenting you with more space which could be used to expand your lawn size or provide fresh spaces to lay patio or decking. Experienced stump grinding businesses can take out stumps of any proportion.

The technique commonly demands slicing the stump as low to the ground as possible using a chainsaw, and afterwards employing specialist stump grinding devices to grind away at the stump. Stumps are ground down to around 10-12 inches under the soil surface to allow planting, although occasionally landscaping projects might require the stump to be removed deeper than this. The wood chippings that are generated by the stump grinding can be either infilled back into the hole and used as mulch for other areas of your garden, or the stump grinding company could remove it and dispose of it in an environmentally friendly manner. In addition, numerous expert stump grinding companies offer specialist small machines that can be used if there is restricted access to your garden such as via a side alleyway.
