Aberdare
Aberdare is a large town in the Cynon Valley area of Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales. The population was 31,705 at the 2001 census, which makes Aberdare the 13th biggest town in Wales. It is 20 miles north-west of Cardiff and 22 miles north-east of Swansea.
Aberdare evolved into a busy industrial town in the 19th century, when it became a centre of iron and tin production. Later there were many coal mines in the town which expanded its population as people moved there to work. Now that the coal mines have shut, the landscape has remnants of its past but nature has returned it to its former beauty.
