Bellshill

Bellshill is a town in North Lanarkshire, Scotland. It is located ten miles to the south east of Glasgow city centre and 37 miles to the west of Edinburgh, in addition to being in close proximity to other towns including Motherwell, Hamilton and Coatbridge. Since 1996, it has been a part of the Greater Glasgow metropolitan area. With a population of roughly 20,000, a report by the Halifax Building Society revealed that in the spring of 2005, the town was the UK's homebuying hotspot, witnessing a rise in home prices by 46%. This led to the standard house price as being £105,698. It's suggested that the town dates back to the seventeenth century, which originally contained a row of quarry workers' houses owned by Mr. Bell, the owner of a stone quarry in the south of the town. The improvement of Bellshill, nevertheless, mostly occurred just after the quarry shutting at the beginning of the nineteenth century. Improvement work has continued all through the twentieth century. Recently, the Streetscape Project, a project which aims to attain the town's regeneration and modernisation of the town centre, took place between 2007 and 2010, which created a one way system around the main street making the area considerably more pedestrian-friendly. Since the middle of the 1980s, the town has been recognised specifically for creating respected and influential popular music, with bands like the Soup Dragons, BMX Bandits and Teenage Fanclub emerging from the town. A Channel 4 television series, 'Sounds of the Suburbs', celebrated the music of the area, commonly referred to as the 'Bellshill Sound' or the 'Bellshill Beat'.
