Bellshill is a town in North Lanarkshire, Scotland. It's positioned 10 miles south east of Glasgow city centre and 37 miles west of Edinburgh, in addition to being in close proximity to other towns including Motherwell, Hamilton and Coatbridge. Since 1996, it has been a part of the Greater Glasgow metropolitan area. Since the middle of the 1980s, the town has been recognised specifically for creating respected and influential popular music, with bands which include the Soup Dragons, BMX Bandits and Teenage Fanclub coming from the town. A Channel 4 television series, 'Sounds of the Suburbs', celebrated the music of the area, often referred to as the 'Bellshill Sound' or the 'Bellshill Beat'.
