Dumbarton
Translating as 'fort of the Britons', Dumbarton is a town in West Dunbartonshire. It is on the north bank of the River Clyde where the River Leven joins the Clyde estuary in Scotland. In the past, Dumbarton was the capital of the ancient Kingdom of Alclud, and after that the county town of Dunbartonshire, being a Royal burgh between 1222 and 1975.
