Alexandria
Alexandria is a town in West Dunbartonshire, Scotland. The town is situated on the River Leven, 4 miles (6 kilometres) north-west of Dumbarton. In 2001, the population of the town was 13,444. It's the largest town in the Vale of Leven. Alexandria developed because of the textile market. In 1715, the very first bleachfields in the area were established at Dalquhurn, attracting seasonal labour from Argyll. As trade between Scotland and the US grew, cotton was increasingly imported and processed in and around Glasgow. Soon, textile work inside the Vale grew from just bleaching fabric to dying and printing it as well.
