Carpets are a very popular selection of flooring, especially in areas of your home where comfort is important, like living spaces and bedrooms. Carpet defines a type of flooring where a material is either woven or tufted to a backing cloth. Carpets are available in a wide variety of colours and styles to match any style of interior decoration, as well as in lots of different kinds of fibre and piles. Some of the more prevalent examples of fibre materials include the synthetic fibres polypropylene and nylon, and the natural fibres wool, sisal, or jute. These kinds of carpet are frequently available in short or deep pile and can be made by using a variety of manufacturing methods, such as twist, Saxony, loop pile, Berber, cut and loop, or velvet. Carpets may be found in patterned, plain or striped designs. All of these various types of carpet are scored according to their performance and how effectively they are suited to different amounts of traffic. They are usually specified to be either medium domestic, meaning bedrooms or studies, heavy domestic, specifying living and dining rooms, and very heavy domestic, suitable for utility rooms or hallways. It is always recommended to fit carpet with a layer of underlay underneath, as this can increase the look and feel of the carpet, as well as increasing its life and delivering better sound and thermal insulation.

South Ockendon

South Ockendon is a small town and Church of England parish in the Thurrock borough and unitary district in Essex in the East of England, UK. It is located on the boundary with Greater London, simply outside the M25 motorway. The area to the north is North Ockendon. South Ockendon village came to be a place for premade homes (prefabs) fitting bombed-out locals of East London/West Essex in the really late 40s. Much of the initial post-war building and construction was undertaken by previous German prisoners of war. The majority of these were demolished in the late-1960s when a large Greater London Council estate, Lecaplan "concrete" construction homes-- the Flowers' Estate-- was developed to change them, one more time with pre-fabricated houses, albeit of a superior style. The Lecaplan Type B kind of pre-cast concrete (large panel concrete) terrace is created in rows of eight residential properties to a layout by J C Tilley as well as made by W. & C. French. In the 1970s the Ford Motor Company factory at Aveley housed Ford's Advanced Vehicle Operations which constructed vehicles such as the RS1600. The plant was wound down slowly from the late 90's however shut totally in 2004, when the last 150 jobs were shed. The majority of the 150 employees accepted transfers to other Ford or ancillary sites around Essex. The 'Aveley' plant was situated along and west of the railway line, adjacent to Ockendon station in the Belhus Ward that part of Ockendon has actually now been become brand-new housing estates, with road names after renowned Ford vehicles in keeping with the sites background.

FAQs

what's the best type of carpet?

With a large variety of carpet types in the market today, it can be incredibly difficult to separate the “the boys from the men. To a great number of home and property owners, what matters is the visual appeal as well as the affordability of the carpet. Once they find one that fits the bill, they simply purchase ignoring the suitability of the carpet for their homes. In several cases, this will often turn out to be disastrous especially when it happens to be a total mismatch. For instance, when you install a carpet that’s not designed to withstand a heavy footfall in a highly busy household or booming business. If you’re looking to get the best possible carpet, then you’ve found the perfect company. In this post, we’re going to consider the best carpet type to help you make informed purchase decisions going forward. Let’s take a look!

Primarily, loop pile and cut pile are the two types that are available in the market today.

  • The loop style pile. Here, the individual ends are linked into the backing to ensure a continuous loop.
  • The cut style pile. For this carpet style, the loops are cut to ensure that each ends are sticking up through the backing - similar to a sheer cut pile.

There are three main types of fibres used today in carpet construction that you should consider. These includes polypropylene, polyester as well as nylon. Furthermore, the most popular choice today when it comes to natural fibre is wool. However, wool’s high price makes it less common and often considered as a luxurious option. For heavy traffic areas, the best carpets are usually loop pile styles to ensure maximum value is derived from your asset. On the other hand, if you want an easy-to-clean carpet, then olefin and polyester should be on the top of your list.

Can I use my old carpet underlay under new flooring?

If you’re replacing your carpet with new carpet, you might be able to use your old underlay. This is dependant on how long the existing carpet has been down for and also the condition of the underlay. But if you’re getting wood, laminate or vinyl flooring it’s not suitable. It will put stress on the joints if you use underlay.

how much to carpet stairs?

Whether you’re looking to add a bit of colour to your stairs or perhaps you just want to replace the current tired and lacklustre carpets, adding a brand new carpet to your stairs can be all that’s needed to glow up your home. However, before you get started there’s always a need to consider the cost of undertaking such a project to prevent any unpleasant surprises. In this article, we’re going to consider the cost to carpet stairs in order to help you make the best decisions as you proceed. Let’s take a look!

Generally, it’s important to note that the type of stair you have can play a key role in the carpet fitting cost. However, you can expect to incur a minimum of £30 to have you carpet professionally fitted. This applies only to the fitting costs, other costs such as delivery, removal of old carpets as well as the cost of any other item that needs to be installed to keep your new carpet in the right place.

When it comes to delivery costs, it very unlikely you’re going to get a free delivery of your carpet unless you pick it up yourself. Depending on the company you select, this could cost about £30 or more. What’s more? The removal of the old carpet will also be included in the overall carpet fitting cost, if you decide to have it removed by a professional. Once removed, the next cost that arises is disposal costs. If you request your old carpet is properly disposed by your carpet fitting company, this could generate up to £50 additional cost. Alternatively, you can take the old carpet to your local council waste site or tip and dispose it for free.

how to measure for carpet?

In order to get a good idea for how much is needed, there’s a need to measure a room for carpet. This is an essential step that should be completed before you shop for brand new carpets to install. Taking the measurement for a basic square or an oblong area is actually relatively easy as long as you put the doorways and entry stairs into consideration. If you’re looking for the best way to measure for carpet, then you’ve come to the right place. In this post, we’re going to take you through room measurement for carpet procedures.

To get started, you’re going to need a measuring tape or a laser distance measurer, a paper and writing instrument or note taking app, a calculator or calculator app as well as a graph paper and a pencil if you wish to draw your layout.

  1. Draw a simple diagram of your home. This doesn’t have to be perfect, but you’d have to ensure the measurements taken are accurate. All that’s needed is a basic drawing featuring all the rooms shown. What’s more? If the room happens to be square or rectangular, you can calculate the area simply by multiplying the width by the length.
  2. Chimneys and recesses. If the room in question features chimneys breasts and recesses, take a measurement of the entire space and ignore them, the flooring or carpet will simply be cut around them.
  3. Calculating the final figure. Take a measurement of each area and put it down in the relevant space on the diagram. Then, simply break the room down to smaller rectangular shapes, determine their area and add them together to obtain the total area of your room. You can make an allowance of up to 5 percent of the total for possible waste.
