Stump grinding describes the procedure where the stump of a felled tree is extracted. Usually during tree felling a couple of inches of the trunk and the root system are kept in the ground, making the surrounding space impractical to use in addition to potentially attracting insects or harbouring tree diseases such as honey fungus. If your back yard has stumps in the ground, having them taken out could open up the garden, providing you with added space that could be used to grow your lawn or create new areas to lay patio or decking. Competent stump grinding firms can take out stumps of any proportion.

The process normally involves cutting the stump as low to the ground as possible utilising a chainsaw, and then employing specialist stump grinding devices to grind away the stump. Stumps are ground down to around 10-12 inches below the dirt surface to permit planting, however in some instances landscaping projects might require the stump to be removed deeper than this. The wood chippings that are made by the stump grinding may be either infilled back into the hole and used as mulch for other areas of your garden, or the stump grinding company can remove it and dispose of it in an environmentally friendly manner. Additionally, many specialist stump grinding companies have specialist thin equipment that can be employed if there is restricted access to your garden for instance, via a side alleyway.
