Fencing in Ambleside

Looking for wooden fencing installers in Ambleside? Our wood fencing installers in Ambleside are going to offer you the most beneficial quotations to have wooden fencing installed.

Fencing is required both for residential and business buildings for a variety of reasons. It works as a boundary for home gardens and private land, serving as a measure of privacy as well as to keep people and pets in or out.

Features of wood fencing include added household protection and aesthetic appeal. With a fence in position, it will become more difficult for criminals to gain access to your household and garden. Be certain to pick a design which will look good too, especially if for house purposes.

We can offer you up to 4 wooden fencing fitters in your area, who will supply quotes for the work you wish carried out. You'll be given a property visit from professionals in Ambleside who'll help you decide on the right style for your property prior to finishing the installation.

The fitting of a wooden fence will need less than one day to complete, depending on the size of area you'd like secured.

Average Wooden fencing cost in Ambleside

The regular cost of a new or replacement fence is approximately £20-£45 per foot, not including removing your existing fence which could cost an extra £5-10 per foot. It will also differ among regions, so it's best to get a few quotes to see what the best price is in your area.

Ambleside

Ambleside is a community in Cumbria, in North West England. Historically in Westmorland, it is situated at the head of Windermere, England's largest all-natural lake. The community is within the Lake District National Forest. Ambleside is provided by South Lakeland District Council as well as forms part of the Lakes civil parish yet from 1894 to 1935 it was a separate urban district council. Ferries (still called "cleaners", although currently diesel powered) run to Bowness-on-Windermere and Shore supplying great views of the lake and also surrounding mountains. Ambleside is a base for hiking, mountaineering and also hill cycling. It has a number of resorts, bed and breakfast, clubs as well as dining establishments in addition to shops. In particular, there are a variety of shops offering devices for walkers as well as mountain climbers in the community. Ambleside is a preferred starting factor for the Fairfield horseshoe, a hillwalking ridge hike. Ambleside is also residence to the headquarters of Brathay Exploration Group, a young people charity based just beyond Clappersgate on the road to Hawkshead. The album CSI: Ambleside, by Birkenhead-based band Half Male Fifty percent Biscuit, is called after the community.

    FAQs

Do I need planning permission for fences?

Not if they are under 1 metre high if next to a road or 2 metres high elsewhere. It’s always recommended to check with your neighbours and the local authority if you are unsure. Other restrictions may apply, for example if a fence might impact driver visibility on nearby roads.

Do I need to dispose of the old fencing myself?

Most responsible contractors will dispose of the old fencing via an approved commercial waste site. Do check that the cost of taking rubbish away is included in the quotes you receive, otherwise you might find you get stung when it comes to paying for the work.

What is the cheapest fence to install?

The cheapest fence to install is, generally, a pressure-treated pine wooden fence at around £20 per linear foot. This includes the materials and labour costs. Wire fencing is technically cheaper at around £5 per foot, but it’s not a great material to use in homes as it looks unsightly and doesn’t provide any privacy.

How close can I build to my neighbour’s fence?

As a home or property owner, you’re generally allowed to build next to your neighbour’s fence as long as it’s on your own side of the property. With that in mind, there are certain laws that regulate how close a fence can be built to buildings on the same lot or neighbouring lots. In addition, there are also local bylaws that provide limitations on the placements as well as height of fences so as to address safety hazards. In this post, we’re going to give you a good insight into how close you can build to your neighbour. Let’s take a look!

In general, if the fence is in your boundary then you’re allowed to build a 2-metre high brick or wooden fence or wall. However, this may differ depending on your location in the UK. As a result, you may want to reach out to your municipality’s building department in order to determine what these rules and limitations are in your area. In the events whereby there are no such restrictions but you’re still concerned, you can try informing your neighbour what your concerns are. However, if they’re not receptive there are some steps you can take to ensure your plans go as smoothly as possible. These steps include the following:

    • Ensure to leave sufficient space for both the posts and footings
    • Stagger your fence posts in order to make sure you’re not digging your neighbour’s
    • Consider using concrete posts as they’re much stronger and will last a lot longer
    • Use kickers or plinths for raised gardens and flower beds
    • Make use of concrete plinths as they won’t rot over time like a wooden fence.
