Fencing in Oxfordshire

Interested in having fencing installed in Oxfordshire? Using the Quotatis service you're able to compare and contrast as many as 4 fencing installers to get the top deal available for the job you need.

Fencing is really important for all houses whether it's the front or back garden. From repair work to a complete installation of new fencing, working with a respectable contractor is highly recommended to get the best price available.

Fences act as a boundary to our households and with an installation you'll increase security to your house and stop easy access to your back garden. Back garden fences are typically around six feet high, which straight away will make it more difficult for intruders to gain entry.

Decorative fences or wooden picket fencing tend to be most appropriate for the front garden, where security isn't as paramount. Instead, you're more likely to opt for a front garden fence specifically for decoration and also to add something different.

For whatever sort of fencing you're looking to have installed, make sure to make use of our totally free and no obligation service to get the best deal available in Oxfordshire.

Average Wooden fencing cost in Oxfordshire

The regular cost of a new or replacement fence is approximately £20-£45 per foot, not including removing your existing fence which could cost an extra £5-10 per foot. The labour costs depend on the length and height of your fence, the number of posts and the material used. It will also differ among regions, so it's best to get a few quotes to see what the best price is in your area.

Oxfordshire

The county of Oxfordshire is particularly well-known for its education and tourism industries and especially well-known for housing Oxford University. The district is placed 35th in Britain for population, with close to 650,000 inhabitants. Its population density is modest as a result, only 640 people per square mile. As expected the City of Oxford supports a big proportion of this population, with areas including Banbury, Abingdon and Bicester quite far behind with regards to size. For your property improvements, be sure to make use of trustworthy businesses in Oxfordshire to guarantee quality of work.

    FAQs

Can I attach something to my neighbour’s fence?

There are a number of reasons why disputes can arise between neighbours – all of which can be quite frustrating and challenging. In some cases, this can even cause serious friction and lead to an all-out war. When it comes to the topic of fencing, one of the most common questions that arises is whether or not you can attach something to your neighbour’s fence. If you’re having the same concern, then you’ve come to the right place. In this post, we’re going to give you a good insight into this to help you make informed decisions moving forward. Let’s take a look!

The short and simple answer to this question is no, you can’t attach anything to your neighbour’s fence. If your neighbour owns the fence and you’ve not obtained any permission to do so, then you’re not allowed to attach anything to the fence. Otherwise, you can get into serious trouble with your neighbour as well as the law. If you want to attach something or have the wall on your side painted using another colour, then there’s the need to get a permission from the owner. And while doing so, make sure you’re provided with a written permission so as to avoid problems later in the future.

Another question that mostly arises is what if your neighbour declines your request, is there anything you can do about it? Well, the answer to this is no, there’s nothing you can do about it unless you’re able to convince your neighbour otherwise. And you should know starting a neighbour war or being spiteful can only make matters worse for you.

How to tell which fence is yours?

If there’s a fence dividing yours and your neighbour’s properties that needs maintaining or replacing, you’ll want to know who owns it. Start by checking your deeds to see if there’s an existing boundary agreement. If there isn’t, have a chat with them to see if you can come to an arrangement yourselves.

How close can I build to my neighbour’s fence?

As a home or property owner, you’re generally allowed to build next to your neighbour’s fence as long as it’s on your own side of the property. With that in mind, there are certain laws that regulate how close a fence can be built to buildings on the same lot or neighbouring lots. In addition, there are also local bylaws that provide limitations on the placements as well as height of fences so as to address safety hazards. In this post, we’re going to give you a good insight into how close you can build to your neighbour. Let’s take a look!

In general, if the fence is in your boundary then you’re allowed to build a 2-metre high brick or wooden fence or wall. However, this may differ depending on your location in the UK. As a result, you may want to reach out to your municipality’s building department in order to determine what these rules and limitations are in your area. In the events whereby there are no such restrictions but you’re still concerned, you can try informing your neighbour what your concerns are. However, if they’re not receptive there are some steps you can take to ensure your plans go as smoothly as possible. These steps include the following:

    • Ensure to leave sufficient space for both the posts and footings
    • Stagger your fence posts in order to make sure you’re not digging your neighbour’s
    • Consider using concrete posts as they’re much stronger and will last a lot longer
    • Use kickers or plinths for raised gardens and flower beds
    • Make use of concrete plinths as they won’t rot over time like a wooden fence.
Do I need planning permission for fences?

Not if they are under 1 metre high if next to a road or 2 metres high elsewhere. It’s always recommended to check with your neighbours and the local authority if you are unsure. Other restrictions may apply, for example if a fence might impact driver visibility on nearby roads.
